Re: Going on a long trip

Hi Michael, Here in Australia many of our club runs have involved long trips, often in hot difficult conditions. My mechanic, when servicing my Special Sports commented when I asked: "Should I carry a spare fan belt?" "No, if you think the existing one is brittle or failing, replace i...

Hi Dennis,
Is that the Ritz?
I can see the veneer dash top looking very "smoked sycamore' and the instrument panel "toned to match" the dashboard veneer.
Cheers

Re: DB18-1 Petrol Reserve Tap

Hi, On both my cars (Special Sports) and DE 36 the fuel reserve has been removed and the lower line linked tot eh fuel pump with the upper line securely blocked at the fuel pump end. The DE was like this when i bought it but the Special Sports suffered from no fuel coming through and after removing ...

Re: DAIMLER RESTORATION

Hello , What you have is a heavily modified Majestic DF316 saloon. Someone has taken the trouble to remove the roof and front screen and replace the screen with a folding? screen. The front fog lights are also modifications, and the wing top side lights appear to have been removed (but I see at leas...

Re: Jobs for a 'on the ramp' day

Careful with grease. It must be the correct steering box lube, not just grease as apparently it spirals up the steering column according to our late club guru.
Is Pennrite steering box lube available in England?
That is what I have been using and it seems to be very good.

Re: Jobs for a 'on the ramp' day

I found that the Pennrite Steering Box lube is very good. it is a gloopy liquid grease designed for steering boxes and doesn't leak out. I wish they made something similar for the shock absorbers! Good advice re tyres, and if they need changing buy the best you can afford. from another club member's...

Re: Idling speed

Hi Pekka,
No camera, but I did have a witness, Mark Bearman, visiting Sydney from Western Australia.
I just pulled the pedal up by hand and the revs returned to normal.
I then made sure that the carpet was clear of the pedal and no problem since.
All very exciting!
Cheers

Re: Idling speed

I accidentally revved the bejesus out of my DE 36 once because the accelerator pedal got fouked on the carpet around the pedal opening in the floor of the car.
Frightened the bejesus out of me too, I tell you. 5.4 litres at a high rev rate in a brick garage was quite a noise.

Re: 1948 Daimler DE36 reg DBL 682

The person who could best assist with details on converting a hearse to an All Weather would be Mark Bearman in Western Australia. Mark's late father had an extraordinary time with a car that had been badly damaged in a museum fire and he started the huge task of transforming it back to All Weather ...
