LD10 solid copper head gasket

Post by mikemillen »

I'm looking for a solid copper head gasket for my LD10, engine number 13849 (later series).

Does anyone know of a source, please?

I have a new old stock copper/ asbestos one part number 288480
Part book no. 606-4(L60025-L61024).
It’s listed on ebay but available direct if anyone prefers.

That could be useful!

I shall wait until the head's off before I order a gasket, just to make sure it's the right one... probably a couple of weeks time.

Now I have the head off, I am pleasantly surprised to find that my head gasket is stamped "Daimler" and 300446, and is solid copper.

Am I right in thinking that if I thoroughly anneal it I can use it again?

Now that I've removed and started to clean the gasket it appears my initial excitement was misplaced... it's not solid copper after all, just a conventional copper sandwich.
Also stamped Cooper's Gaskets, incidentally.

Shame... I was hoping to save £100. :-(

I don’t remember any models that fitted a “Solid” Copper Gasket, no doubt others can enlighten me ! 👍👍🤣

Cheers Al 👍

Mike, why do you want a solid copper gasket ?
The composite ones are superior. They need reinforcement around all the holes and only a composite gasket can have this.

I had an idea that solid copper was better, but it looks like I have no choice anyway. :-)
