Hello Paul,

IIRC, Deb Swarfega ORANGE does not contain any microbeads.

Hello Paul,

I use the Orange and have always found it to be highly effective - you do not need much. When the garage day is over and Orange has been used, I use a drop of hand moisturiser to finish off; after 30x years no issues.

This is from the Deb site:
Swarfega Orange
At close second in the list of most-recognised products, for heavier soilings Swarfega Orange is the go-to product for automotive mechanics.

The hardworking product easily removes oil, grease and general grime, containing non-abrasive scrubbers for a deep-down clean.

Orange is fast-acting and solvent-free – and uses natural cornmeal instead of plastic microbeads to remove ingrained dirt from the skin.

Whilst Classic is ideal for a moderate amount of grease and grime, it’s important to use the correct hand cleaner, which is why Classic and Orange make the perfect pair.

However, Orange should only be used for ingrained dirt, as the aforementioned over-scrubbing can result in the stripping of vital natural oils from the skin.

Regards.

Richard, thanks for the update. It would appear it is only you and I that get our hands oily.

Putting on disposal gloves actually puts me off working on cars as you have to take them off to do some jobs and then you end up carrying on without putting them back on. I haven't used swarfega in decades, ended up using washing powder, and a cousin of mine said sugar with washing up liquid is best (never tried it).

If swarfega orange is the best solution then I'm going to get some too.

You have to train yourself to use disposable gloves. I was always very reluctant to use them . After one long Christmas break with my hands nice and clean and pink with all the little nicks and cuts healed up I was faced with an engine that had been leaking oil and collecting dirt for a very long time. Needless to say I didn't want to put my hands in the oily mess. On with the gloves and I have been using ever since. That was 15 years ago and my hands are still in pretty good condition. The other advantage of gloves is that they teach you to avoid the sharp edges that tear the gloves and cut your hands. I use them for almost everything now, the car, decorating, general DIY.

Each to his own!
