Annual International Rally: 2 - 9 June 2019

Post by Fossil »

To All

Next year’s 55th annual international event returns to Scotland again, 25 years after the first Scottish Rally at Doune Motor Museum in 1994.

It is to be held in the beautiful Borders town of Peebles, south of Edinburgh, at the refurbished Peebles Hydro Hotel in the River Tweed valley, in association with the hotel’s owner Club member Stephen Leckie.
The hotel will be the rally’s base, and the Rally will be held in the town on Sunday 9th June 2019.

The Rally Dinner will be on Saturday 8th, and there will also be a ceilidh, probably on Friday 7th.

This area of the Scottish Borders is stuffed with so many things to see - castles, country houses, ruins, abbeys, museums, gardens, and some nice shops too - that we’ve decided to start the festivities on Sunday 2nd June to give us a full week of events and activities. You can join the company whenever you wish.

Our destinations will include:
The Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith.
Edinburgh Castle.
Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott.
Rosslyn Chapel.
The Scottish Museum of Flight at East Fortune airfield.
The Jim Clark Museum at Duns.

Other recommended places for you to visit during the week include:
The other Borders towns of Galashiels, Melrose, Hawick and Jedburgh
The Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
Dawyck Botanic Garden and Arboretum, near Peebles.
Kailzie Gardens also near Peebles.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse and Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, with Arthur’s seat and the Salisbury Crags, remnants of Scotland’s really ancient volcanic past.
Alnwick Castle (Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey, of course!)

It is recommended that you visit the websites of all of the above to decide what you wish to see, or not. Where feasible, group arrangements will be organised.

You are welcome to arrive on any day during the week of 2nd to 8th June, or if you live close enough, to just join any of the events on the day. Full details will be available in advance.

The accommodation costs are as follows:
Single room B&B £44.00 per room per night
Double room single occ B&B £79 per room pn
Double room double occ B&B £89 per room pn

Full payment is required at the time of booking, to book please contact the reservationist Alix on 01764 651846 between09.00 and 17.30 Monday to Friday.

Don't forget to let the organisers know too -

The Club's International Rally 2019 website will be operational shortly; details of all the organised visits and events will appear there when finalised. together with any associated costs. They will also be circulated to those who have booked accommodation. Booking for the events will open in the spring next year.
