V8-250 Saloon: Wiring Block Connectors

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

At some stage, sooner rather than later, I will be looking to replace and improve the wiring block connectors located on the LH and RH wings along with the associated wires. As you can see from the photos they are not dreadful, but nor are they brilliant either.

The saloon has a 20x way block connector and a 10x way unit.

My understanding is that neither blocks are available, although Holden doing something similar (5x way connector ref 080.263) you can do the maths on that !!

Of course this is not a bundle of single straight through connectors, but in many cases 2x wires in at the top resulting in 1x wire only coming out at the bottom; hence the complexity of these units. I think the 20x way block connector deals with 14x wires in total, I cannot recall the number of wires on the smaller block.

I am interested to hear if any saloon owner has tackled this problem and if so the outcome, please.

Any information, gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Richard.

I’m not a saloon owner but have dabbled with re wiring other cars.
Try Auto sparks of Derby. I think they may have the connection blocks. If not, like Holden, they may have similar.
The main thing is though that they do box sets of Lucar connects and the crimping pliers to do a very good period looking replacement.
Colin,
I may be slow but I’m rough as well !

Hello Richard

Have you tried SC Parts - I think I bought some from them a few years ago. Their site certainly shows them and they're priced relatively reasonably, although I've not checked whether they're in stock.

Many thanks Colin and AW - your assistance & replies are very much appreciated.

I'm on the case and will report back in due course; SC Parts are not far from me; it will cost far less in fuel than it will with their p&p at about £12.70 !!

Best wishes.

Hi,
I have renewed most of the under bonnet and wheel arch wiring and incorporated modern snap connectors and an additional fuse box.
The only bullet connectors I have left are the ones to the windscreen wiper motor as I had previously restored the motor and renewed all the bullet connectors at that time.

This can be a logistical nighmare unless you label all the wires

and I replaced them with correctly coded wire as to the wiring diagram.

It's a good idea to replace these connectors, but at the same time I take the opportunity to install relays to control the headlights
