Recommendation

Post by rogerharrop »

My wife and I decided that we would like to attempt a complete re-trim of the interior of my Dart through this winter - despite having no experience at all but bags of enthusiasm!

Last Spring therefore I did lots of research and talked to lots of experts (including one well known SP specialist who proceeded to rubbish his competitors….how unprofessional).

I decided on Bryan Purves and we went down to Sussex in July to see him, chose the quality and colour of carpets and leather and placed our order.

Early November we picked up our ‘kit’ from Bryan (and left our seats for refurb and retrim which he suggested he should do) - and started work.

We have now completed it all finished and are really happy with the result - see below - more importantly perhaps my wife and I are still talking!

It’s just sad we can’t take it out and show it off at present!

Bryan has been fantastic throughout - firstly delivering a very high quality ‘kit’ and secondly bending over backwards to give advice and help whenever we have needed it. He is one of those rare breed of highly committed, highly skilled and charming specialists that inhabit the classic car world in the UK.

Thankyou Bryan.

We cannot recommend you highly enough.

That's a cracking job, what colour does Bryan call the leather, it looks like 'Jaguar magnolia' ?

Can you or anyone of the other forum members assist me? I am completing the restoration of my B type Dart and I am looking for a photo which shows how the 2 black strips connect to the forward slopes of the 'A' posts. I am told they are secured with turn buttons supplied in the kit. They help keep the hood close to the side window to avoid drafts.

Thank you for your suggestion.
With the roof raised, they don't naturally fall into place here. I am still wondering about the length of the straps, maybe they need to be fastened when the roof is down?.

Zbigmak, looking at your pic., I would say that the trimmer has left the straps long for you to cut to size once you have positioned the turnbuckles.
They are definitely for use with the hood up only.
Hope this helps.

Dave.

I have the photocopied instructions whicxh came with my new hood in 1987.

"Also supplied with the hood are two new turnbuttons and their respective eyelets. It will be noted that the straps that help secure the bottom corners of the hood to the door posts (by the driver's shoulder) are much longer than on the old hood. This is because a hardtop cannot be fitted to the car with turn buttons in their original positions. The longer straps permit the turn buttons to be positioned further inside the car. Eyelets can then be put into the strap in the desired position."

So this is why the straps are long. But you don't need to use that length if you want to have the turnbuckles, as originally positioned above the door catch, as in the picture by #100910
