250 V8 power steering

Post by Ronniet55 »

Hi, I am having issues with this
The power steering sometimes “disappears” Whilst driving only to return for no apparent reason. Any ideas/suggestions on where to investigate?
Regards
Ron

Hello Ron,

As the PAS is constantly pressurised once the engine is running, it sounds as though the pump may be at fault by not keeping the system pressurised.

A couple of checks worth making to eliminate possible causes is the belt tension and do you know when the PAS fluid was last flushed through with a new filter added ??

Additionally, do you have any leaks from the PAS system - pressure drop will reduce PAS efficiency ??

Not obvious, but if a hydraulic flexible pipe has collapsed internally slightly that will also cause an assistance issue by failing to maintain the required pressure.

Just a couple of ideas to help you on your way.

Good luck.

Richard.

Hi Richard, thanks for your comments
Fluid, filter & hoses are brand new - car has only done 200 miles since engine rebuild etc
The fluid level hasn’t changed so maybe pump is at fault. I’ll investigate further

Ron
