Alternate Gear Change Selector

Post by joewusa »

Is there a gear change selector from another car that will fit the SP250 gearbox? I have one from a TR3A that I restored that is the right shape and fits the socket well but the rod below the pivot point is too short.

Hi, Joe.

I am told that these will all fit with only the thread needing to be recut for the gear knob. I have no first hand knowledge, though I am looking for a second hand TR4 selector with a bend to bring the knob nearer to me.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Simon and the offer, Steve. I found I have a selector lever from a TR4 transmission and it fits. The only thing I had to do was sand the top cover ring smaller so the TR4 cover plate would fit over it since it was of a slightly smaller diameter.

I'm pretty sure I sourced a TR4 Gearlever & had it rechromed.

It is hollow & I wanted to fit an overdrive switch on the gear knob. When I mocked it up, with leather cover & knob, I realised you can't see any of the chrome ....

A side effect of having a TR4 gear stick is it is a lighter , go-faster, racing version :-)
