Adjustable Steering

Post by Bud »

Is there an acceptable substitute or source for the volute ( compression ) spring and associated cups that are used on the adjustable assembly?

There was no spring or cups on my SP adjustable steering column, just a lock nut that screws onto the fingers in steering wheel, does your car have a non standard steering wheel, the fingers on the SP are cast into the steering wheel boss, these can break off and a new splined bush with the fingers needs to be shrunk in and welded in place. The splined bush is a standard part of the JaguarMK2/Daimler V8/250 adjustable column, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124650532039 ... SwzzNgWyXd

Ian,

On pg.142 of the spare parts catalogue plate#34 - 6 shows optional steering wheel. Items 8-9-10 are the parts in question.

Hi Bud, only looked in the manual, but found this and and they are over your side of the pond, they may also have the end covers but they shouldn't be too difficult to make up from various lids,

Ian,

These look to be somewhat cosmetic as a cover for the screw drive. Does the volute spring push the wheel back into max extension when the adj. nut is loosened and keep it there under tension until either locked there or set at another distance?

You can use the Austin-Healey parts.
