SP250 spark plugs

Post by AlanCoombs »

I just read Andrew R's "Never seen that before" article in this month's DM regarding a broken Champion spark plug. I don't usually read/post on the SP250 forum, but felt the urge to share some thoughts/experience.

This has happened to me before, and the problem turned out to be rather sinister - counterfit Champion spark plugs. "Fake" spark plugs turn out to be really rather common, and are often made of very poor grade steel. Looking at the photograph in the story, I suspect that the one shown is indeed fake, the clues being the (lack of) crispness of the N5C label, and I believe (I could be wrong on this one) that the "///" stamped around the bass should be aligned in the opposite direction on a genuine plug. The moral of the story - always buy plugs from a reputable supplier!
