Daimler V8 Saloon - Correct Value Level

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

Yesterday (6th September) an exceptionally decent 1968 Daimler V8 saloon with auto transmission concluded at auction for a sale price of £30,250.

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/auction ... d=1&pid=29

The auction site provided an extremely comprehensive photographic library (over 100x) along with a detailed description of the car.

If we accept that the bodywork and its structural integrity is A1, then combined with the photo library then it is fair to say that this particular example reflects the true value of these cars in today's market. As such, it is certainly a tangible benchmark to assess the value of other V8 saloons being sold and to be sold on the market. Numerous saloons will not be at this condition level and therefore their "for sale" price can be assessed accordingly.

This car is not concours but with a small amount of application it could be classed as such; an increase in value would reflect this. However, how many potential V8 saloon owners seek a concours car; counted on one hand perhaps.

One final observation is that this car rolled off the production line as a manual NON-O/D model, but was converted to automatic at some stage. One could say that should be reflected in the price with the car not being original. However, that said, if we look and assess this car as it is - then for a beautiful Daimler V8 saloon in this condition the sale price is bang on. The car is known within the DLOC and hopefully that association will continue with its new owner.

Regards.

Richard.

there is a decent looking but dusty 2 1/2 litre saloon ('66 with its UK 'D' suffixed plates still attatched) in Black with red interior, currently listed (as of Sept 17th) for sale on Monterrey Ca 'Craigslist'; asking $15k US.. seats appear to have some cracking in the leather (normal in the hot dry climate here) doubtable there will be any takers unless its priced considerably less.. car has a blue Ca rear plate fixed over the original Uk one at rear.. so it was likely imported some time in 1970s.. You almost have to give these cars away here.. very little interest among the general public...SP 250s still sell though..
