Ta-Da !!! 60% of production found!

Post by Bud »

According to Laurence the 1591st car has been Officially added to the tally.

If my math is right, 1591 of the 2646 produced according to his records is 60.01%.

That is well over a thousand cars found or listed in the paSPort since the third edition total of 427 chassis numbers.
Something to be said about Glass Fiber cars. As well as a dedicated following.

It's certainly a good tally of 'bodies' Bud - although we don't know how many of the survivors are fit and well. Worldwide this is probably difficult to assess accurately but certainly in the UK the percentage of 'on the road' cars is still quite high.

The number of RHD cars built was 1453 and it's reasonable to assume the bulk of these remained in the UK. The number registered and taxed for the road earlier this year was 506 - nearly 35%. Additionally a further 117 were recorded on SORN's (Statutary Off Road Notification) which covers cars known to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) as off the road for whatever reason - restoration, seasonal lay-up, possible barn finds etc.
Added together these numbers equate to nearly 43%. Given that several cars will have been originally exported to other RHD markets and that there are almost certainly some cars no longer registered with the DVLA, the percentage is probably even higher - a good survival rate for a car at least 50 years old.

There are over 70 in New Zealand listed (mostly on the road) and maybe a similar or lesser number in Australia.

Bud, I suspect the real reason such a high percentage have survived is that ffffffffantastic!!!!!!!!! exhaust note.

Is there a car nut in their right mind having heard it who could resist the urge to find and buy one.

Funny how the secret of the cross flow or X pipe pipe has become the standard of high performance exhaust mfgr's like Magna-flow who now brag of their desirable exhaust note. So long in the coming. Like Dodge with "their" hemi's, yeah right!
