Hi everyone
Firstly thanks to everyone's help on the paint question which resulted in a perfect result ...
My rear bumper on my 1951 DB18 is rotting so as i was having a bare metal respray i thought i would buy a new bumper. The problem is the bumper I bought looks nothing like the old one. i am informed it came off a 1951 but its clearly not as long, doesn't wrap round the car, is a slightly different shape and has chrome bolts holding it on as well as the mounts in different place!
the 'D' is also different, mine is slimmer and the actual D is larger
can anyone throw any light on this one - are there two types of bumper?
- I also need a rear bumper if anyone has one!

Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
Re: Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
The "new" one looks like a Consort rear bumper. These days the Consort would be called a DB18 "facelift"
Re: Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
Just looking at the top picture it looks as though you have a front and back. The one nearest the wall looking like the back one . I have put my back one back on the car and it is reversed into a lock up garage with the front up in the air, so I can't measure that very well. I have got a front bumper buried in the shed that I could dig out and measure if that helps to eliminate a wrong one.
Let me know.

"Nick - do you think you will ever put that old car back together again?"
Re: Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
Not sure which is old and new..
However, the one at the back looks like a Consort Rear.
Given that they both have “D” badges, then they are probably both rears.
It is possible that the nearest one is from a
De/Dh 27 or 36. The db18 empress used same bumper, but without the D badge.
I suspect the extra bolts are either to fill the hole left where the over- rider would have been bolted, or maybe indicators ?

Steve, in answer to your question, no there are not two types.
Unfortunately your newly purchased bumper is incorrect.

Hi
My bumper is the one at the back, with the irons attached and the chrome is better.
Brian-H by new do you mean the shinier one at the back?
NickDeAth - that would make sense a modded front bumper moved to the back
DB n j - overriders make sense here, thanks
grahamemmett - thanks - will do

Yep I meant the shinier one at the back.
If that's the original bumper then surely your car must be a Consort (aka DB18-Consort, but not aka DB18) ?
Re: Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
hi
Yes its a 1951 DB18 Consort... is the earlier one just called a DB18 then?

Re: Daimler DB18 1951 on bumpers - are there two types?
Yes - my understanding is that, although the Consort is a "facelift" version of the DB18, it's more usual to refer to it as "DB18 Consort" or just "Consort".
The front & rear bumpers on the DB18 are different than the font & rear bumpers on the DB18-Consort
I've no idea what the other bumper is from as I only know the DB18, the Consort, and the Conquest
