Daimler LQ head gaskets.

Post by Marcel Renshaw »

I have been informed of a quantity of LQ head gaskets.
They are new old stock copper asbestos.
There are possibly 4 or 5 which is nearly 1 for every car.
Are there any LQ engined car owner’s interested in buying one ?

It’s impossible to know how many survive as not all owners are in the tha same club or even any club and then the problem of owners not even letting their club know which car they have or even which engine is fitted.
I spoke to the DLOC registrar and he could only think of 6 cars with LQ engines.

Hi Marcel, I had a quick look just to check if it is one of the parts shared with the Lanchester 15/18 and 18. Unfortunately it isn't. I did see, however, that there are several Part Nos for the LQ series, so those you have might not fit any LQ.
LQ 2/20 Part 114992.
LQ 3/20 Parts 115540 and 115604.
LQ3/24 Part 117189
All the best, Ranald

Hi Marcel,
I've got a 1935 LQ3 20 and would be interested in a spare headgasket if the part numbers are correct.

I’ve added the photos I received of one of the gaskets.
Looking at the Payen catalogue they only list 2 for the LQ2/20 and LQ3/20.
Probably to simply things as Daimler often changed hole sizes in gaskets to allow more water to get to parts of the engine.
The gasket pictured is according the the Payen catalogue the 1935 variety.
The LQ3/24 looks to be very different to the earlier engines.

Hi, I have a 1934 LQ2/20 and would be interested. The parts book (TC89) which covers my car (38186) states part number 115540, although my car is plated as an LQ2 it was made very close to the time when they changed the model number to LQ3.

LQ 3/24 already have the later 3,3 liter engine also used for ES und EL24. Therefore a head gasket of the latter might fit but I am not sure.

The LQ3/24 is very different to the earlier cars going by the Payen gasket details.

The problem is getting enough owners together to enable to finance having “New” gaskets produced, maybe a “ Crowd Funding” scheme could be set up to sort the problem ?

Cheers Al 😊😊
