I'll pose the question on the Daimler Lanchester Club of Victoria facebook page and see if it gets an answer.

Anyone got a reliable contact in NZ, their facebook page isn't very active.

Hi,
It would seem quite counter intuitive to have vinyl or Rexine seats for hot climates as they would be even more uncomfortable than leather.
Perhaps the issue is actually misunderstanding that the Conquest range had leather facings on the seats but Rexine covering for all non seat facings of the seats eg sides and rear surfaces and door skins?
I have never seen any advertising or information that would suggest that different seat coverings were available for hot climates.

On the Royal Tour cars there were fittings to allow a canvas seat cover to be fitted, but I haven't seen anything like that on the Conquest range.
Cheers
Peter G

I've had several replies from NZ and Australia, after posting the question on facebook.

All the Conquests mentioned have leather seats and no one has heard of this 'option', suggesting that the Dutch car seats are not original.

Sorry, I did see this and forgot to post. I don't know about Daimlers, but have heard of Roll-Royces and Bentleys destined for tropical use made with non-leather seating at a customers request. This was supposed to be because termites ate the leather. I'm not sure NZ would have this problem, I believe the RR/B I read about were destined for Kenya and Malaysia. I would think a modern retrim in plastic would be fairly obvious?

Thanks chaps for your insight
Attached are 3 photos submitted by the owner ... does this give anyone thoughts on what they are? ... are they leather but he doesn’t know? Are they replacements or recovered ?
Thanks in advance

I'd say that's a modern retrim in plastic, and not a very good one at that: the rear seat is very uneven, and all 3 are overstuffed. The tops and backs of the front seats are also pretty crudely done. Sorry...
