DB18 DHC - 1950 - Rebuild

Post by Bart »

Hi,
In the mean time, i'm busy rebuilding the back end of my DB18 DHC.

A question: there seems to be a sort of cloth between steel and wood parts. What is it and why is it there? Should i put one in the rebuild part?

Not sure what part of the bodywork your picture refers to - but where the body mounts to the chassis and any kindred fitting, there would be a form of fabric webbing interpossed between the joint faces.

I believe it was referred to as Belaco Belting material - but any firm webbing material from an uphosterers would be an adequate replacement.

Hi Stan,

This is a steel end piece that holds a wooden beam that keeps the 2 wood backbones apart and fixes them to the chassis in the back.

The Belaco Belting material i can see being used on the bodymounts (rubber & fabric). This is a thin layer of fabric between the steel and wood?
Best regards,
Bart

its to stop any moisture from the wood making contact and causing premature rusting of the metal

Ok, thanks for the info. Then i suppose that simple fabric is not enough, will need to be something "waterproof".

In the mean time, i have figuered out where all the bits go and am busy rebuilding the rear frame.

the fabric was dipped in oil based resin then applied to the metal and sandwiched between it and the wood

Hello,

In the mean time, my new garage was finished (took long enough...) and i'm back at work on the DB18 DHC.

I found some more parts that i do not know where they should go: a set of curved steel profiles (that seem to fit together 2 by 2) - covered in something soft and canvas. any idea what these are?
