Lanchester Roadrider LA14, Mulliner, for parts - now identified

Post by HenryC »

Hello,

I happened to park in the driveway of a farm today in my Daimler DHC. The owner came across and said: I've got a Lanchester in the barn, obviously he knew enough about car to connect the two makes.

What model is it?

The (scrap) car was rescued from a field, he took it on just to save it from the scrapyard. Can anyone identify it? He thinks he has the chassis plate in the house.........
He is prepared to let it go for parts. The chassis is corroded through, hence the odd roof line.

Here are some photos - unfortunately I couldn't get far enough away to get the whole body in.

more photos to follow.

Message or email me if you are interested in the 'whole' car or particular parts and I will put you in touch with the owner.

I referred to Dave Philpot and he says ;
the car is a Lanchester Roadrider (LA14/1) with Sports Saloon coachwork by Mulliners (Birmingham) Ltd.

This model was introduced in the autumn of 1936 for the 1937 season, as a replacement for the Light-Six.

The chassis numbers should fall within the ranges of 30,000 - 31,999, & 33,000 - 33424.

The engine would be of 1,527c.c., and the model is covered in parts book T.C.107.

Wow. I'm glad my LA14 was not as bad as that when I bought it...
