Hello,
I've popped over from the Daimler Forum to seek Lanchester assistance, please !!
A Daimler owner has unearthed a couple of photos of his father's car in 1931 - he believes one of the photos MAY be a Lanchester, but that is as far it goes.
I will be extremely grateful, if someone may be able to throw some light on the enquiry.
The 1931 photo was taken Newlands Corner, Surrey.
Thank you in advance.
Best wishes.
Richard.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
Hello,
Here is the current update:
Chris Clark: What a lovely car this is, Richard, but sadly not a Lanchester.
Kevin Bennett: I like the air intakes on the scuttle, it does not look like a Daimler built Lanchester to me, and the bonnet is not the typical Birmingham style, it does not align with the scuttle so may not be the original fitting.
The search continues !!
Of note, the bonnet mascot is quite imposing but insufficient detail when magnified to allow an informed opinion.
If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to update the thread.
Thank you in advance.
Richard.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
If he still has the photos then putting them (individually) onto a scanner set to high resolution might assist

Hello Brian,
He certainly has the photos, as this is a recent enquiry - in fact unearthed very recently.
I will mention the option you have suggested.
My own suggestion was either a Ford Model A 4-door; but more likely an Alvis 12/50............. I'm still sifting through WiKi !!
Many thanks for the advice.
Best wishes.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
Interesting comments, but Welsh car Guru DP and I have been exchanging emails regarding the make and mark, we both agree they are two different cars and neither is from the Daimler Lanchester stable.
.
If you just expand the screen you can see the upper car has trafficators either side at the top of the windscreen, which the lower one has not got, the upper car has also got two chrome handles on the bonnet flap and if you look closely the front wing profiles differs.
DP and I both agree, though he was the expert to identify them, that the one with the 1931 label is very likely a c1930 Wolsey Hornet and the lower car is a c1930 Riley Nine. Syd

Hello Syd,
Many thanks for this information and very much appreciated.
I will relay the observations and please pass on my thanks to DP; the owner of the photos will have a good base to start from now.
Best wishes.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
I am not clever enough to get a clear image of the mascot but I thing from the shape and outline it is a very popular after market mascot known as The speed Nymph which was originally made by Lejeurne and but very widely copied. I attach a copy of my version

Hello Colin,
Many thanks for your message and attached photo - it's an excellent likeness and there cannot (if any) be many similar mascots. I have seen the Speed Nymph before and as you say its availability was most likely tempting; it would certainly tempt me !!
I will forward the photo to the chap concerned, who I know will be most appreciative.
Thanks again.
Best wishes.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
Hi, Nice photos. I think they are the same car several years apart. The car behind it in the second photo looks much later than 1931. Even the drivers sliding window arrangement looks the same. It looks like a seat has been removed for picnicking.....seems to have been a normal thing to do in these earlier days if motoring. All the best, Ranald
Added. Now I’m doubting myself. As Sid says, the wing profile is different and the bonnet lengths look different. I’d still like to know what is parked behind.

Re: Vehicle ID Help - Please
Ranald, surely they have to be two completely different cars? Take another look at the the bonnets they are a different shape and have differeing fittings.
Been looking at that car in the background which you drew attention too, not many cars fit that profile in any age but at the risk of humiliating myself, could it possibly be a Bugatti Royale? That distinctive rear end and what appears to be a very large chrome hub cap? Failing that, I am not sure but was there a whopping great Daimler similar in style, but it may not have had those hub caps. Syd
