That's because the the Briggs one is the second abridged one covers the last series of Briggs and Barker Cars there is an earlier one that states the 30 thou which I am still in the process of digitising as there are multiple parts catalogues too also a parts supplementmikemillen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 9:35 amThere's still something wrong with those manuals... on page 3 of both, they state that the manual applies to serial numbers 62,800 to 63,799.

Aha, so the change from 30 thou to 20 thou came while the bodies were still supplied by Briggs .
It doesn't help the mystery of the reason for the change, but not surprisingly it shows the change is independent of body supplier.

That's nice!
Do we know if all the covers had the lettering painted white?
Mine has no paint nor any traces.

Well it's definitely official!
I've just found Service Bulletin L.7/1949...
No reason given, nor commencing chassis number, just the instruction to switch from 0.030" to 0.020" forthwith.
"With advantage".

FWIW not just the Lanchester LD10 - several days ago I noticed the same change in Daimler Consort Owner's Handbooks i.e. 30 thou in one Owner's Handbook, 20 thou in another. I'll take a picture of each cover and its relevant page and add them at a later time.

Just to confuse matters, Darren said he thought it looked like my cover had been altered - and he's correct!

Re: Spark plug cover - Barker LD10
That's weird! The cover originally had 0.030", so why does that one look altered?
It's not just the white paint that makes it look like that, is it?
Were they white-painted originally?
