FRONT DOOR DRAIN HOLES DJ 252

Post by ROSS70JEN »

HI I have just found out that my door on the DJ 252 1955 Century do not have water drain holes in the bottom of the doors.
My DJ 260 1957 does have the drain holes installed.
My DJ252 has been restored were the holes omitted or were they a later mod.
Should I Drill holes in my doors?
regards Bryan

Hello Bryan,

I do not own one of these cars but I have always ensured that all the classics owned do have drain holes. If they are not there, then I drill 3x holes either 8mm or 10mm depending on the door structure size. A hole at each end and one on the middle, then ensures which ever way your car slopes then any water will be able to escape. It is pointless making small holes as these do not drain properly and can sometimes get clogged - hence the 8 / 10 mm I have suggested.

In addition I also spray the inside of the door with Dynax-S50 anti-corrosion wax; it is an excellent product and the high powered 750ml cans come with a 2ft plastic lance which sprays the wax 360 degrees. You can purchase these at less than £15 and the wax proofing is a worthwhile exercise - Bilt Hamber, the manufacturer, is way ahead in the technology field hence their products being one of the very best out there and Dynax-S50 is no exception.

In fact I have just done this on my V8 saloon - doors, sills, A panels etc.

I hope that assists ??

Regards.

Bryan,

My DJ252 has 4 holes in the bottom of each door. One at each end, and the others evenly spaced. This was the pattern on the original metal before I rebuilt the doors. On the original, the holes were elongated (as I expect they are on your DJ260). When I replaced the door bottoms, I drilled round holes of 3/8”.
